SPY PICS: Volvo XC90 uncovered

Danish enthusiast captures new Volvo SUV up close in Copenhagen
The editor of an automotive website in Denmark has scooped pics of the next generation XC90 in his home town of Copenhagen.
Volvo has not revealed what the heavily disguised pre-production SUV was doing in Denmark, but the manufacturer has previously tested the V40's pedestrian safety there, before the small hatch was launched.
Weight reduction is reportedly a major concern for engineers working on the new generation XC90, and sources have informed the spy photographers at Automedia that the new SUV will weigh up to 150kg less than the current model. That being the case, the XC90 could move to a four-cylinder engine line-up – including a plug-in hybrid variant and a 'twincharger' engine displacing 2.0 litres.
New safety technology rumoured for the XC90 include a pedestrian detection system that will automatically brake for other vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists – even in darkness. A system that can detect barriers and the edge of the road – whether or not the edge is marked – can automatically steer the vehicle back into the lane. Volvo claims this is a world first. And adaptive cruise control system with steer assist will follow the car in front and keep within its lane.
As we've previously reported, the XC90 will bring Apple's CarPlay infotainment technology to market and will make its global debut at the Paris motor show in October this year. The new model is scheduled to arrive in Australia during the first quarter 2015.
