The arrival of the Huracan Spyder next year will drive consecutive record Australian sales totals for Italian supercar marque Lamborghini.
Just launched in Melbourne this morning, the Huracan LP 610-4 Spyder, is the second Huracan variant to go on sale Down Under. Priced from $470,800, the first local deliveries of the soft-top convertible mid-engined junior supercar commence in the second quarter of next year.
Year to date September 2015, Lamborghini has already sold over 80 cars here – more than the full-year totals of 2013 and 2014 rolled together.
The brand’s Country Manager for Japan, Korea and Oceania, Eginardo Bertoli, told motoring.com.au, Lamborghini is therefore heading for a record number of sales this year, but will sell even more cars in 2016.
“Things are going well [this year]. We are very happy, satisfied and looking forward to an even better year in 2016,” Bertoli said.
“Since we developed this new family of products we are seeing many new [to the brand] customers… I think we can go over 100 [sportscar sales each year in Australia]. We are working hard on the brand and that is giving results.”
Further, Bertoli said he believes the company has the potential to double Australian sales once Lamborghini’s Urus “super sport SUV” goes on sale locally.
“I see a big potential – for sure we are going to double our volumes with Urus. The brand will be even more visible because we are inventing… creating, a new segment – the super sport SUV concept.
“We are going to be the first and we should enjoy the opportunities and advantages of being the first,” he stated.
Urus is not expected to arrive in Australia until 2017 at the earliest, however Bertoli says that is not damping enthusiasm.
“Honestly, I’m absolutely very excited – but so are all of our team, dealer network, customers… Everyone… We have many customers already wanting to put down a deposit to be the first,” he said.
Early interest in the Syder is strong too.
The new soft-top features a powered hood that can be opened or closed on the move up to 50km/h. Lamborghini says the action takes 17 seconds – substantially more than the 449kW car’s 0-200km/h time of 10.4sec. The 0-100km/h sprint is knocked over in just 3.4sec, the company claims.
Personalisation is a big part of the Spyder’s offer. The soft-top itself is offered in three colours (black, brown and red), but in total Lamborghini claims there are 30,000 interior/exterior colour options once buyers include the marque’s Ad Personam atelier program.
The company claims the Huracan family was designed from day one to include a Spyder variant. All the same, the soft-top is a substantial 120kg heavier than the coupe and therefore a touch slower.
That shouldn’t worry many buyers, however. They’ll be too busy enjoying the additional access to the V10’s tunes the opening rear bulkhead window provides, top up or down.
