Spyker Automotive says it plans to re-start development of the petrol-hybrid 'super-SUV' it was working on up until 2014 when it ran into financial difficulties.
The Dutch supercar-maker says it has teamed up with Lotus to help it bring its first-ever SUV -- dubbed the D8 Peking to Paris -- to production, reports Autocar.
If you’re wondering about its unusual name, the large SUV pays tribute to the Spyker that competed in the 1907 Peking to Paris rally.
Originally, the D8 was poised to be powered by Volkswagen's W12 engine but now, Spyker has confirmed the D8 will come powered by a V8 sourced from Swedish hypercar-maker Koenigsegg.
This, says Spyker, will be combined with an electric motor.
Based on a full aluminium platform, the D8 is primed to be launched at next year's Geneva motor show in March.
Spyker says it hopes the arrival of the SUV will help it increase production to around 500 cars per year.
The UK-based car-maker also says that once it has delivered its SUV, it has plans to produce a less expensive six-cylinder sports car that could potentially be inspired by the B6 Venator that was shown back in 2013.
Currently, Spyker makes its C8 Preliator coupe in Coventry in the West Midlands.
