Just 18 months after its local release, the Ssangyong Kyron has been upgraded with Euro IV-compliant engines and new styling both inside and out.
The local distributor has played around with the pricing and the model mix too, marketing the car more aggressively and retaining just the stronger-selling variants in the new SUV market.
Three variants are available, 2.0-litre turbodiesel manual and auto, plus 2.7-litre (five-cylinder) turbodiesel auto. Prices have been reduced by $2000 for the 2.0-litre model and by $3000 for the 2.7. These now stand at $32,990 (2.0 manual), $35,990 (2.0 auto) and $38,990 (2.7 auto).
The facelift comprises changes to the headlights, tail lights, bonnet, grille, front cooling intake, alloy wheels and a larger rear window.
In the cabin, the Kyron gains a new instrument cluster design which features improved illumination. The steering wheel is new and boasts remote shift controls for the five-speed automatic transmission, where fitted. Cloth trim has been revised and the re-styled dashboard is now black, in lieu of the earlier model's dark grey. Vanity mirrors for the front sunvisors are now covered and illuminated.
Mechanically, the Kyron now complies with Euro IV emissions legislation and is quieter and more refined. Ssangyong engineers have revised the suspension for better ride and handling.
