One of the world's most recognised science-fiction film franchises, Star Wars, has spawned a striking new road car inspired by the iconic X-wing space ship.
Commissioned by the Hot Wheels brand for the Comic-Con event in San Diego, USA, the car will be a sight for sore eyes for the millions – billions? – of Star Wars fans around the world who grew up fantasising about piloting the X-wing, which was first seen in the late 1970s.
Unlike the X-wing's 4L4 Fusial Thrust engines, the X-wing Fighter Carship is propelled by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder 16-valve Ford engine. It's a mid-mounted donk and has been blueprinted for extra charisma.

Output is unknown but apparently it can do the Kessel run faster than the Millennium Falcon… In all seriousness, the eye-popping custom car is relatively light and is understood to have a top speed of almost 260km/h.
Based on a Formula Ford race car with the bodywork and sub frame fabricated by hand, the impressive creation is driveable and features a fully actuating canopy lid and seating for one driver. AP Racing brake calipers are used, as are slick tyres.
It has the attitude of a race car with its open-wheel design but the turbo thrusters on its flanks and the twin laser cannons mounted to the car's 'S-foil' wings that remove the need for a rear wing give the car a futuristic warrior-car aesthetic.

One thing's for sure, you probably wouldn't have too many people cutting you off in traffic or road-raging at you in this thing!
Naturally, Hot Wheels has also released a 1:64 scale version of the X-wing Fighter Carship.
It's not the first time a Star Wars-themed car has been created either, with the Darth Vader car released in 2014 another of Hot Wheels' wild creations. That vehicle was powered by a thumping LS3 V8 engine, but it remains to be seen which of these two would be fastest at the Friday night drags.
Star Wars has also entered the automotive world via custom satellite navigation guidance, with the Darth Vader sat nav making for interesting journeys.
