Subaru BRZ tS to get trick suspension and aero but no more power
Long-awaited sharper, faster BRZ coupe revealed in the US but gets no more power and is yet to be confirmed for Down UnderSubaru has released the first images and full specifications of a sharper, more hard-core version of rear-drive BRZ coupe.
While it doesn't wear an 'STI' moniker, the BRZ tS is indeed the work of the company's high performance division Subaru Tecnica International.
Featuring Sachs dampers, revised springs and a thicker under-bonnet strut bracing for added stiffness, the focus of the BRZ tS is enhanced track day capability.
Which explains the adjustable carbon-fibre rear spoiler, large front splitter, side skirts and lightweight 18-inch alloy wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres.
STI also equips the BRZ ts with upgraded Brembo brakes.
The interior features black leather and Alcantara plus a sporty, suede-wrapped steering wheel.
No changes under the bonnet so the tS model runs the BRZ's standard 152kW/212Nm 2.0-litre flat-four-cylinder engine.
Subaru plans to produce 500 BRZ tS vehicles - in either blue, black or white paint - but they're all left-hand drive and destined for North America. Pricing will be announced early next year.
Sadly, there's no word from Subaru Australia on whether the STI-tuned BRZ will head Down Under.
Originally, it was hoped the hotter BRZ would stay true to the wild turbocharged 225kW/450Nm BRZ STI concept Subaru was caught patenting last year. Maybe there are future plans for that car.
