Subaru will debut its top-of-the-range MY2007 Liberty and Outback models with a new ‘intelligent’ performance management system. Dubbed SI-Drive (Subaru Intelligent Drive), the system will be fitted to turbocharged Libertys and six-cylinder Liberty and Outback models.
According to Subaru SI-Drive “offers the option of three different drive experiences in one car.” Selected via a console mounted dial, the driver can opt for Intelligent, Sport or Sport # (read: sharp, as in music) settings.
The settings deliver different engine and transmission characteristics by manipulating the various engines’ ECUs, drive-by-wire throttles and transmission electronics (in the case of auto-equipped cars).
According to Subaru, Intelligent is an economy biased setting with Sport equating to the settings of the non-SI-Drive equipped models. Sport # delivers a new level of sportiness, Subaru says.
The SI-Drive-equipped MY2007 Liberty and Outback will be launched in the first week of September.
In other Subaru news, the company will release a special edition Impreza WRX Club Spec 9 later in August.
According to Subaru, the car features a variety of mechanical and cosmetic refinements and includes factory-fitted sunroof and leather trim as standard. Just 300 will be produced.
