Subaru is preparing to unveil a striking new battery-electric sports car concept at the Tokyo Mobility Show next week.
Dubbed the Subaru Sport Mobility Concept, the show car could preview the next-generation Subaru BRZ or even herald a reborn Subaru SVX.
For now, the Japanese car-maker is keeping details under wraps, although the single teaser image released ahead of the show provides plenty of intel – such as its stylised design.
There are certainly hints of the short-lived Giugiaro-designed Subaru SVX from the early 1990s, especially around the slim LED headlights.
Subaru says the concept car “expresses the enjoyment that Subaru offers in the age of electrification, embodying the pleasure of going anywhere, anytime, and driving at will in everyday to extraordinary environments”.
“Driving with peace of mind allows us to embark on exciting new adventures. This is a battery-electric vehicle concept that evokes the evolution of the Subaru Sport values,” the company said.
Its compact dimensions could also place it as a rival for the next-gen Mazda MX-5 EV.
The Japanese car-maker last year confirmed the Subaru WRX STI would be axed and will be replaced by a high-performance EV but it’s unclear if this concept car is the vehicle in question.
Subaru will also reveal a new ‘Special Edition Model’ Forester SUV that “equips features which encourage [owners] to take on the challenges to the outdoor field”.
Stay tuned for more details…
