Early adopters of the next-generation 2014 Subaru WRX can pre-order their vehicles online and will take delivery of an individually numbered car when it arrives in March 2014.
Subaru has decided to offer the first 100 Subaru WRXs online from today, November 26 at 12:00 noon, to give die-hard fans first dibs on the hard-charging rally hero car.
Inspired by its BRZ coupe online sales strategy, Subaru is one of the only car companies in Australia to sell cars online.
The WRX pre-order deal also includes the car's first scheduled service for free, and customers can click to the WRX Top 100 website to place their order, which requires a $2500 deposit.
Though pricing has not yet been announced for the new WRX, it is expected that increased equipment levels will see it eclipse the current $39,990 price.
However Subaru stresses that the $2500 deposit is "fully refundable" and simply "guarantees customers their new pre-ordered WRX is in the first Australian batch, due to land in March or April 2014".
Online pre-orders for the new vehicle will end on December 13 at 11:59pm or when the 100 WRXs are allocated to customers.
Celebrating its 20th anniversary in Australia in 2014, the new-look WRX will be the most powerful iteration of the famous vehicle yet, powered by a 2.0-litre boxer four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that grinds out 199kW/349Nm.
Revealed at the Los Angeles motor show, the new WRX wasn't unanimously loved at first sight, but Subaru Australia's Managing Director, Nick Senior, says demand for the new model has been strong enough to warrant an online pre-order system.
"We’ve already had a huge spike of interest in WRX on our own website and are aware of significant pent-up demand," said Senior.
"This initiative will offer our most dedicated WRX fans the opportunity to secure their car early, while also adding cachet to their purchase by getting an individually numbered vehicle," he said.
Once deposits for the first 100 cars are taken, sales of the new WRX from March/April will be through Subaru dealerships.
