Geneva International Motor Show
Subaru has debuted the architecture that will underpin its upcoming front-engine, rear-drive sports car at the Geneva International Motor Show.
The new layout will offer a low centre of gravity matched with what Subaru says is a compact and lightweight body, and short wheelbase, to produce 'crisp' handling characteristics.
Uniquely, the future Subaru model will become the only sports car in the world to feature a front-engine, rear-drive layout powered by a horizontally-opposed (Boxer) engine.
The engine is set further back on the chassis to further aid stability and weight distribution. Subaru says considerable chassis development will provide the low-slung sports car with dynamics that enhance the driving experience and improve driver confidence, rather than focus purely on straight line speed.
A distinctive suspension arrangement sees the as-yet unnamed sports car utilise a strut front, double-wishbone rear layout covered over by what will eventually be short body overhangs.
The production sports car is expected to commence production in early 2012
