Subway reveals plans to create EV charging Oasis Parks for drivers

As new charging stations roll out across the US, future plans for innovative Subway destination chargers are on the cards so EV owners can get Subway cookies while they wait to charge.

Footlong sandwich experts Subway, and GenZ EV Solutions have joined forces to build what they are calling the EV Charging Oasis of the future across the US. The idea is to create a more seamless experience for EV drivers with charging parks at select locations that include a Subway restaurant, covered charging ports, picnic tables, Wi-Fi, bathrooms, green space and even playgrounds.

As part of a multi-year plan to roll out the Subway Oasis concepts, smaller-format, fast EV charging stations will be piloted at some new or newly remodelled restaurants across the US, starting this year. Guests may also benefit from dedicated Subway promotions, available only while utilising an EV charging station.

"We're constantly exploring new ways to innovate and exceed our guests' expectations for a high-quality, convenient experience," said Mike Kappitt, Chief Operating and Insights Officer of Subway. "Our partnership with GenZ EV Solutions is a win for our guests, our franchisees and our planet, creating a dedicated space for drivers to charge their vehicle while enjoying their favourite Subway sandwich."

Subway says that as drivers shift to electric vehicles and continue to drive long distances across the country, Subway's large footprint of restaurants makes it well-positioned to offer a quick, reliable charge to EV motorists and contribute to a national network of charging stations. Subway will be working with its franchisees of both traditional and non-traditional locations, to identify sites for both smaller-format EV charging stations as well as Subway EV Charging Oasis parks of the future.

This development follows the news that Volvo USA will install as many as 60 Volvo-branded ChargePoint DC fast chargers at around 15 Starbucks locations along a 2172km route from Denver, Colorado to the coffee company’s Seattle headquarters.
