The 30th annual GTI-Treffen gathering at Reifnitz by Lake Wörthersee has again attracted VW and Skoda fans from all over Europe, keen to partake in celebrations for the 35th anniversary of the Golf GTI and bear witness to the Volkswagen group's latest offerings.
Among that list is Škoda's latest pocket rocket, the Fabia RS 2000. A design concept prepared especially for the anniversary meeting, the car appeared alongside the rally version, Fabia Super 2000, sporty Fabia RS and Fabia Monte Carlo.
"These days, the GTI-Treffen is rightly hailed by fans of powerful engines and sporty customization as the Mecca of car tuning," said Škoda boss, Winfried Vahland.
"Anyone who comes to the event once never wants to miss another year of this fascinating get-together.
"The jubilee year of 2011 is a welcome opportunity for us to show off our sports models and make sure that everyone knows that Škoda really has something to offer here."
The Fabia RS 2000 draws many of its design cues from the Fabia Super 2000 rally car, the roadster said to possess dynamism and promote the joy of sporty driving.
There's no word yet as to whether the model will ever make production. But if the support shown at this year's event is anything to go by, we'd like to think such a move would be simply clever.
