Frankfurt will provide the venue for the first official look at the Skoda Superb Combi. The new addition to the Superb range will make its debut at the IAA (the Frankfurt Motor Show), next month. It has been an open secret that Skoda planned a wagon version of the Superb, but locking the Combi into the September launch hammers a peg into the ground for production and international launches.
To date, Skoda has sold over 42,000 units of the new generation Superb around the world. The Combi adds further practicality and will boost sales of the car incrementally.
Although details concerning the new model are scant, it's likely that the Superb Combi will be built on the same wheelbase as the sedan/hatch, but don't count on anything nifty like the Twin-Door tailgate for the grocery-getter.
As revealed by the Carsales Network in June, the Superb wagon has been pencilled in for an Australian launch next year. The trick for Skoda will be offering a V6 Combi, keeping the price under the Luxury Car Tax, if indeed, they choose to offer such a variant. It's more likely, in our view, that the Combi will be limited to the 1.8 petrol and turbodiesel drivetrains.
