Supercar-chasing Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA in the works

Already-quick Giulia Quadrifoglio to get significant weight-saving and an incredible 456kW to battle the BMW M3 CS

Alfa Romeo is reportedly readying an even faster version of its Giulia Q that could revive the legendary 'GTA' nameplate.

According to FCA blog,

, a limited number of just 500 cars will be produced and the 375kW twin-turbo 2.9-litre V6 in the standard Giulia Quadrifoglio will have its power boosted a monstrous 456kW.

It's not known how the extra power will be produced but it's thought the more powerful engine develops so much torque that it will only be combined with the car-maker's eight-speed automatic.

As well as more might, the Giulia GTA will reportedly be 20kg lighter than the lightest manual Giulia Q (available in Europe), hinting at even more liberal use of carbon-fibre including a featherweight bonnet, doors and boot lid.

Since the Giulia Q in standard trim can hit 100km/h in 3.8 seconds, the lighter GTA version could reach the same benchmark in three seconds dead.

A completely revised chassis, meanwhile, could see the mid-size Italian sports sedan post another record-setting lap of the Nurburgring.

According to moparinsiders.com, the Giulia GTA will be unveiled on June 24 as part of Alfa Romeo's 110th anniversary celebrations.

When it's revealed, expected a healthy premium over the regular Giulia Quadrifoglio, which in Australia is priced from $145,900 plus on-roads.
