Suzuki Ignis Shadow sneaks in

Stylish newcomer is a full-time recruit for Suzuki Australia’s light SUV range

The 2023 Suzuki Ignis line-up has been bolstered by the emergence of a new flagship Shadow variant that gifts the light SUV a newfound sense of attitude.

Based on the existing GLX, the Ignis Shadow carries a drive-away price of $27,990 plus on-road costs, making it $1500 more expensive than its donor vehicle.

The extra cash earns buyers a bespoke set of black alloy wheels, black spoiler, ‘Shadow’ rear badging and a matching decal down the flanks of the pint-sized runabout, with the spec sheets revealing there to be no other differences between it and the cheaper GLX.

This means the standard equipment highlights reel reads identically save for the new aesthetic touches.

Cruise control, keyless entry, climate control, automatic LED projector headlights, sliding and reclining rear seats, smartphone mirroring, 16-inch alloys, rear privacy glass, satellite navigation and a continuously variable transmission (CVT) are all included out of the box.

The CVT channels drive from the standard 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine exclusively to the front wheels and help keep the combined fuel economy down to 4.9L/100km.

Those wanting to inject more attitude into their new Ignis can do so via Suzuki’s elaborate array of genuine accessories which include a wealth of exterior and interior enhancements.

The Ignis is the second Suzuki model to be given the Shadow treatment behind the now-retired Suzuki Baleno.

Unlike the bigger Baleno, however, the Ignis Shadow is understood to be a permanent member of the range and not a signal for the model’s retirement.

As usual for the Japanese small-car brand, the Ignis Shadow is covered by a five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty.

How much does the 2023 Suzuki Ignis cost?
GL – $23,490
GL (a) – $24,490
GLX (a) – $26,490
Shadow – $27,990
