Suzuki continues to break its formerly conservative mould with its latest in a series of zany concepts.
The almost cartoon-like vehicle you see here is dubbed the X-HEAD, and it's due to take its bows at the upcoming Tokyo motor show (which starts on October 24). It follows closely in the wheeltracks of the aptly named Splash (as it created exactly that) at the recent Frankfurt motor show.
There's not too much information on the X-HEAD to go on for now, barring a Japanese press release that we've managed to decipher (sort of) using Google's translator.
Loosely paraphrasing the Japlish PR bumpf, we've managed to glean that Suzuki is billing the vehicle as a "Cross Utility Vehicle of the new genre".
It's said to draw its inspiration from the likes of the Jimny and Vitara and supposedly has "high running and high loading characteristics".
We're not sure exactly what the benefits of such a configuration are, but there's no doubting the distinctive visual presence of the X-HEAD's tallboy stance.
As for the X-HEAD moniker, it was the result of the vehicle's multipurpose nature -- and hence the "X", denoting a myriad of uses.
The 'carrier unit' can reportedly provide sleeping quarters for two adults, enabling its occupants to "stay the camper" and "ride into town coolly". Well, that's the Japlish translation anyway. Apparently, it even has potential applications as a rescue vehicle.
Will the X-HEAD spawn a production variant? No official word as yet, but it seems a bit too left-field to be offered for public consumption.
A more likely outcome is that some of its design cues will filter down to future production models.
