Around 3755 Suzuki S-Cross small SUVs sold in Australia are being recalled to fix a seat stitching problem that has the potential to negatively affect the deployment of some airbags.
The recall is national, affecting Suzuki S-Cross vehicles sold in all Australian states and territories and according to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), owners of the vehicles should take them to an "authorised Suzuki dealer for inspection and the counter measure parts to be fitted".
The recall notice states that: "Suzuki Corporation has identified a possibility that during production the front seat back may have been assembled with incorrect stitch seam spacing, outside of the manufacturing control value around the area of the side airbag.
"Consequently, the tearing strength of the trim may be higher than required to tear out the trim and inflate the air bag during an accident, which may pose a hazard to an occupant if an accident were to occur," reads the recall notice.
Ruth John, Suzuki Australia's Assistant Manager for Marketing & Public Relations, told motoring.com.au that the company has "taken the precaution of replacing all seat covers".
"We have ensured that this proactive measure is a simple process for our customers, with seat cover replacement done at a dealership level and will affect approximately 3300 vehicles."
