Suzuki reveals Swift Sport ahead of global debut

Another unveiling is scheduled for Frankfurt; this time it's Suzuki's highly anticipated Swift Sport

The new model releases just keep on coming as the Frankfurt motor show approaches — and Suzuki's Swift Sport is the latest to roll up.

Unlike Subaru and Hyundai — releasing teaser sketches — Suzuki has revealed the new Swift Sport in all its glory, over a month ahead of its launch in Germany. According to press material issued by the company this morning, the Swift Sport is based on the Swift S Concept on display at the Geneva motor show in March of this year. The same concept also made it to Melbourne for AIMS last month.

For the Swift Sport, Suzuki claims to have boosted power and lowered fuel economy. The 1.6-litre M16A four-cylinder is exclusive to the Swift Sport application and drives through a six-speed manual transmission to the front wheels. Suzuki has tweaked the suspension too, of course, to hold things in check when the engine gets busy producing 100kW of power and 160Nm of torque.

“We are very excited about the preliminary release of the new Swift Sport, but we are still some way off finalising the Australian version,” said Suzuki Australian General Manager Tony Devers.

“The Swift Sport will not go on sale here until next year, so we still have some time to work through the specification level suitable for the Australian market.

“What we do know is the Swift Sport will offer better performance, handling, economy and style than ever before. We can’t wait to launch the ultimate pocket rocket to our customers.”
