Suzuki Swift Series II detailed

Facelifted small hatch range to arrive in September, with a price increase for upgraded Swift Sport

Suzuki Australia has confirmed details for the updated Suzuki Swift range, which will bring a minor nip-and-tuck as well as more standard gear.

Revealed earlier this month in Japan, the mid-life facelift for the fourth-generation Suzuki Swift has now confirmed for local release in September.

When it arrives, the 2020 Suzuki Swift will distinguish itself from the current model via a new front bumper with a grille divided by a horizontal chrome bar on some variants. and new alloy wheel designs.

New safety and driver assist features will include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and a digital speedometer, while heated door mirrors will also make an appearance for the first time.

Meanwhile, the rear speakers already seen in the mid-spec Swift GLX have been added to the entry-level GL Navigator.

Suzuki Australia says the Swift’s current powertrain options will carry over with the new model, and there’s still no confirmation of if or when we’ll get the fuel-saving hybrid version already available in Europe.

The engine continues to include a 1.2-litre four-cylinder for the entry-level GL Navigator (currently priced at $16,990 plus on-road costs), 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo power for the mid-range GLX Turbo ($22,990 plus ORCs) and a 1.4-litre four-cylinder for the Swift Sport (from $25,490).

Suzuki is yet to announce pricing for the mainstream Swift Series II variants, which could be pricier thanks to the added gear, but it has confirmed a $1500 price rise for the updated Swift Sport.

The brand’s updated flagship warm hatch will arrive sooner (mid-June) than the rest of the range, with a new price of $26,990 plus ORCs – up from $25,490.

Suzuki Australia has also applied a $2000 price increase for the upcoming (and updated) Suzuki Ignis, which returns on sale in June priced from $17,990 plus ORCs.
