Suzuki Swift Shadow variants signal the end of current model
Swift becomes the latest model to get the black Shadow treatmentThe end of the line has been approaching the current-generation Suzuki Swift for a while now, but now we have the best indication yet that time will soon be called on the popular city-car, with Suzuki Australia releasing a pair of Shadow editions.
Positioned at either end of the core Swift range, both the GL Shadow and GLX Turbo Shadow build on the standard kit of their respective donor vehicles by adding black 16-inch alloy wheels, black wing mirrors, decals and ‘shadow’ badging.
The pair are priced from $28,490 and $33,990 drive-away respectively, which makes them $2500 and $2700 more expensive than the standard GL automatic and GLX Turbo they’re based on.
No changes have been made to any of the models’ mechanical packages, meaning the GL Shadow retains the familiar 66kW/120Nm 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, while the GLX Shadow features the punchier 1.0-litre turbo-triple outputting 82kW/160Nm.
Both versions send power to the front wheels via an automatic transmission, however, the GL sports a continuously variable transmission whereas the GLX utilises a six-speed torque converter.
Spec highlights on the GL Shadow beyond the black design cues include cruise control, manual air-conditioning, sat-nav, a 7.0-inch infotainment system, multi-function steering wheel and four-speaker sound system.
The GLX ups the ante with adaptive cruise, six-speaker audio system, keyless entry, push-button start and automatic climate control.
Six colours are on offer in tandem with the shadowy styling touches, with punters able to choose from Pure White Pearl, Burning Red Metallic, Premium Silver Metallic, Super Black, Speedy Blue Metallic and Mineral Grey Metallic.
Suzuki has traditionally rolled out the Shadow editions when a model is in the closing stages of its lifecycle, which means we probably don’t have too long to wait before we see the new-generation Swift break cover officially after myriad launch delays.
