Suzuki Australia has quietly added $2000 to the asking price of the popular Suzuki Swift Sport for the 2023 model year, without making any changes to the standard specifications of the compact warm hatch.
The peppy pint-size runabout is now priced from $29,990 plus on-road costs in manual form and $31,990 in automatic guise, which still sees them positioned below similarly sized but more powerful hot hatches like the Hyundai i20 N, Volkswagen Polo GTI and Toyota GR Yaris.
The prices rises come as Suzuki Australia battles against ongoing supply constraints that it expects will continue well into 2024, although the Swift portfolio has the shortest wait time of any Suzuki model.
“Swift, along with Ignis, currently have the best production opportunities for us, but [Suzuki is] still restricted versus our current order write performance,” Suzuki Australia general manager Michael Pachota told carsales in January.
At the time, Suzuki said customer delivery times for the Swift and Ignis were as short as one month depending on the variant, transmission and colour, but several dealers we spoke to this week indicated an average wait time of four to six months for new Swift Sport orders.
Most of the Japanese brand’s production and supply woes stem from the same components shortages being faced by most manufacturers at the moment. In 2021 that prompted the release of the cut-price Jimny Lite and Swift GL S, both of which omitted certain features to keep sales ticking over.
The fourth-generation Suzuki Swift is due to make its global debut sometime this year ahead of an expected local launch in the first half of 2024.
