Swansong Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport is criminal

To drive on the road, that is... But one of 200 single-seat 515kW track-only weapons could actually be yours

If the release of the eighth-generation 992-series Porsche 911 at this week's 2018 Los Angeles motor show wasn't enough to slake your thirst for rear-engined boxer goodness, wrap your peepers around this -- the ultra-rare, track-only Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport.

Based on the already-wicked current-generation 991.2-series Porsche 911 GT2 RS, one of the wildest factory 911s ever built will not only be a fitting finale for the outgoing 911, but one of the most exclusive, with just 200 to be built.

And you could own one of them, if you have a spare €400,000 (making it at least as pricey as the standard $A645,000-plus-ORCs 911 GT2 RS in Australia), and if Porsche likes the cut of your jib.

“Australians can put in an expression of interest," said Porsche Cars Australia spokesman Chris Jordan. "Too early to say how many will be successful. All orders are assessed, so there is no allocation per country per se.”

This single-seat, rear-drive track car is powered by the same epic 515kW/750Nm 3.8-litre twin-turbo six-cylinder boxer engine as the 911 GT2 RS. Combined with a seven-speed dual-clutch PDK automatic transmission, the 1390kg racetrack weapon will hit 100km/h in well under three seconds and a top speed well beyond 300km/h faster than you can say "how long is the front straight?!"

Fitted with 310mm-wide rubber at the rear, the chunky centre-locking race wheels house big 390mm brake rotors up front and 380mm jobbies at the rear, chomped by six-piston aluminium monobloc racing callipers at the front and four-pot callipers at the back. According to Porsche, these deliver "excellent deceleration values". No doubt.

The fact that drivers can adjust the brake balance is the icing on the cake, but other motorsport goodies include a built-in fire extinguisher, quick-release front and rear panels, a welded-in roll cage and Recaro race seats with six-point harnesses.

Drivers will also glance at a completely different instrument display, this time from Cosworth -- the same peeps that are building the V12 for the Aston Martin Valkyrie.

The new instrument display has full data-logging capabilities so you can tell exactly when you got spooked and lifted mid-corner, plus there's a removable carbon-fibre steering wheel with paddle shifters. Oh, and air-conditioning is included!

On the outside, an oversized rear wing, plus the bonnet, boot lid and roof are all made of carbon-fibre reinforced plastic – or CFRP to petrol-heads – adding rigidity while reducing weight.

Frank-Steffen Walliser, Porsche's motorsport and GT cars chief, said owners may also get invited to legit motorsport events.

"For the upcoming years, our customers will not only race the GT2 RS Clubsport on track days but also at international motor racing events. We are currently holding very productive talks with the race organiser SRO," he said.
