Suzuki's impressive Swift hatch now has a more powerful, more purposeful twin. The Swift Sport was unveiled in Japan last week ahead of its local and European unveilings later this month.
Powered by a bored and stroked version of the cooking model's 74kW/133Nm 1.5-litre, the Swift Sport boasts a peak output of 92kW at 6800rpm and 148Nm of torque at 4800rpm. The now 1.6-litre engine features an upgraded block and stronger internals. Downstream there's a revised twin-pipe exhaust system.
The Swift Sport gets an upgraded interior and more purposeful body adornments. It also gets a stronger chassis, upgraded suspension componentry, bigger wheels and rubber (195 section on 16-inch alloys) and better brakes.
Drive is front-wheel only though there is a new close-ratio five-speed gearbox to help keep things percolating and deliver a 0-100km/h time of just over 8sec -- faster than the long-admired first and second generation Suzuki hotshoe hatch, the Swift GTi.
The five-door Swift Sport will be priced at $23,990 when it arrives later this month. Look out for CarPoint's local launch review soon.
