Switzerland bans some Porsche, Mercedes models

Switzerland’s Astra road agency has banned the registration of 4.2-litre V8 TDI Porsche Cayenne, 3.0-litre TDI V6 Porsche Macan and 1.6-litre four-cylinder Mercedes-Benz Vito turbo-diesel models due to software that camouflaged their true NOx emissions.
While cars already registered in Switzerland can remain on the mountain nation’s roads, they must be retrofitted with new software and, in some cases, hardware — or risk being banned as well.
The ban is expected to impact Porsche far more than Mercedes-Benz, whose parent company Daimler stopped exporting Vitos to Switzerland after the country issued a recall in May.
