TARGA: Mixed Day 1 for motoring's Megane
Seven stages down, 31 to go for the motoring.com.au Renault Sport Megane RS 265You never know what to expect at Targa Tasmania and the first day of competitive stages for 2013 offered a range of highs and lows for team motoring.com.au.
Mike Sinclair and Bill Hayes finished Day One as the third-placed Showroom team. Teammates Grant Denyer/Dale Moscatt are in second place, behind the leading Megane of Adam Spence and Erin Kelly.
The morning saw a small electrical issue for Sinclair/Hayes, which was rectified by the Walkinshaw Performance service crew.
“As the day progressed, the roads came to us and we were able to get more comfortable on the stages,” explained Sinclair.
“It’s all about familiarity, and we are improving all the time. We are looking forward to tackling the stages of the North East Loop tomorrow.”
Hayes was similarly optimistic about what lies ahead. “The North East Coast offers a unique challenge, with some wonderful stretches of road which test both driver and co-driver.
“Today has helped us understand the tyres better, and with the experience gained we have a solid base to build from for tomorrow.”
Thursday’s North East Loop sees competitors leave the Launceston Silverdome to tackle a further eight stages, with the historic Longford -- famous for its part in the Tasman Series of the 1960s -- hosting its traditional town stage to finish the day.
