It was the last opportunity for the Walkinshaw Performance crew to assess their steeds before Targa Tasmania gets underway in earnest, with the Kayena and famous George Town Prologue stages due to run on Tuesday.
For Mike Sinclair and co-driver Bill Hayes it marked a return to their Targa Megane after a busy week of reconnaissance in a Renaultsport Megane 265 road car.
Reconnaissance, or ‘recce’ as it’s known in tarmac rally circles, offered the crew a chance to run over the roads they will be competing on in the event itself.
While this process is completed on open roads and at legal speeds, it still gives the crew a decided advantage when it comes to their pace-note preparation.
In addition to checking over the cars, the Symmons Plains session offered VIP guests an opportunity to bag a passenger ride alongside Sinclair on the tricky, tight circuit.
Judging by the smiles, the Megane’s combination of performance and handling won itself several new fans…
From Symmons the WP crew loaded the cars once more, before heading for the Launceston Silverdome. There, the cars underwent final servicing and scrutineering before finally being put to bed.
Tomorrow, the World’s Greatest Tarmac Rally awaits…
