Buckby Motorsport Megane hits the top five as 25th Targa Tasmania hits HellyerThe motoring.com.au Renault Sport Megane continues to attack the exotics, holding fifth place in the prestigious GT2 class at Targa Tasmania after the fourth day of competition.
Mike Sinclair and Julia Barkley survived sometimes-slippery conditions to post impressive stage times throughout the day, with fourth-place finishes on Edith Creek (tied) and the day’s final Rosebery test being the highlights.
“There were a couple of times early on where it was very slippery,” said Sinclair.
“We had a couple of big slides!”
As the day progressed the Buckby Motorsport-prepared Renault retained its position as the first front-driver in the category.
“We were able to beat Jim (Richards) on Rosebery (by 9sec), but he has over a minute on us overall,” he said.
“The power deficit showed on some of the straight climbs but on anywhere twisty, and particularly downhill, the car is great… it just needs a good driver!”
After overnighting in Strahan on the east coast, Targa crews will make the final run towards Hobart, Tasmania’s capital. Some 115.52 competitive kilometres comprise Leg Five and include the moonscape of Queenstown, as well as the climb out of Strahan itself and the incomparable Mt Arrowsmith.
