Tesla to reduce autonomous aids on Model S

Irresponsible drivers climbing out of the driving seat while cruising along the highway at high speed could force Tesla to reduce the number of autonomous driving aids on its current range of cars, according to new leak from one of its beta software testers.

The tester, and presumed Tesla Model S owner, reported that Tesla’s latest 7.1 version of its Autopilot autonomous driving aids had been issued with new restrictions on its use.

The 7.1 update, says the anonymous beta tester, will restrict the system’s capabilities to below the posted speed limit, even going as far as disabling the Model S’ Autosteer feature in certain conditions.

The response from the car-maker follows remarks made by Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, that future software updates would prevent people from doing “crazy things” - following the much publicised Youtube video of a Dutch Model S owner climbing  into the back seat while cruising at speeds of over 80km/h.

As soon as the news broke that restriction could be brought in to limit the Model S autonomous driving aids, according to Tesla fansite Teslarati.com, owners have reacted angrily.

One Model S owner up in arms about potentially limiting their car’s autonomous features going as far as threatening to sue Tesla if their car’s software was auto-updated without the owner’s permission.
