Tesla Cybertruck teased winter testing

Production-spec Tesla Cybertruck shown playing in the snow as long-awaited electric pick-up draws nearer

Tesla has released a single image of the upcoming 2024 Tesla Cybertruck undergoing cold-weather durability testing somewhere in the northern hemisphere, indirectly reiterating the fact the long-awaited electric pick-up will enter production in the coming months.

The American EV giant posted the image to its Twitter page, captioned with: “Cybertruck winter testing” and a snowflake emoji.

The teaser image doesn’t reveal anything new about the futuristic looking load-lugger in terms of its design, however, it should be noted we can’t see the front-end, which may have undergone subtle design tweaks in its transition from wild concept to production reality.

We don’t know where or when this image was taken but we do know the Cybertruck is coming up to five years in the making after myriad delays, spec changes and altered timelines.

And crucially, we still don’t know whether the Cybertruck will be available in Australia after orders (deposits) were halted locally this time last year.

Three months later, Musk confirmed “the specs and the pricing” of the production Cybertruck would be different to those detailed at the vehicle’s 2019 reveal, citing rapid inflation and COVID-inflicted production issues as the primary causes.

Pending any further delays, production is now expected to start imminently – if Tesla adheres to the revised timeline Musk announced earlier this year – but we’re yet to receive any word on the prospects of a right-hand drive version.

That’s now the big question for Aussie fans of the Cybertruck, given the recent axing of RHD versions of the Model S and Model X, leaving many local Tesla customers in the lurch.

We’re not overly confident in Australia’s chances given the astronomical demand for the Cybertruck, which has reportedly notched up more than a million pre-orders, and the fact it will be produced exclusively at Gigafactory Texas.

Hopefully we’ll have more news to share in the coming weeks.
