Fresh from revealing upgraded Tesla Model S sedan and Model X crossover vehicles this week, Tesla has confirmed two all-new models are on the way in the near future.
That’s if Elon Musk’s Twitter posts and press interviews are to be believed.
According to the US EV-maker’s boss, engineering for the highly-anticipated Tesla Cybertruck has already been finalised and “If we get lucky we’ll be able to do a few deliveries towards the end of this year”.
Musk went on to say that volume production will begin early next year, which is sooner than expected given the Cybertruck was originally slated for volume production at the company’s new Gigafactory in Texas by late 2022.
There’s still no word on exactly when – or even if – the six-metre-long electric pick-up will arrive Down Under, let alone how much money you’ll need to get into one.
Meantime, the second-generation Tesla Roadster also looks to be going into production in 2022 after a bunch of delays.
According to a Twitter comment from Musk, the Roadster’s engineering will be finished by the end of this year, before production begins in 2022.
“Aiming to have release candidate design drivable late [northern hemisphere] summer,” he commented.
If that’s the case, we should see a Roadster test mule hitting the streets sometime this year, although it’ll likely be conspicuously camouflaged.
The second-generation Tesla sports car is hotly anticipated, since its production has been pushed back multiple times to allow Tesla to focus on other models such as the Cybertruck and Model X.
When it arrives, Musk says the new Tesla Roadster will bring “mind-blowing” performance thanks to three electric motors (one up front and two in the rear) that allow it to hit 100km/h in around two seconds.
