Tesla Motors Australia has increased the prices of all Model S sedans, including the new entry-level 70D before it even arrives here in September.
The cheapest Model S now costs $106,900 plus luxury car tax and statutory charges (up from the $102,400 starting price announced when the 70D was revealed just last month), which brings the LCT-inclusive price of the cheapest Tesla to $116,358 and the NSW drive-away price to $122,433.
That's a long way from the sub-$100,000 starting price announced a year ago for the Model S, which was originally priced at $91,400 ex-LCT or $96,208 plus ORCs.
Meantime, the mid-range rear-wheel drive Model S 85, which arrives in August, now costs $114,200 plus LCT and ORCs, or $132,397 drive-away in NSW, while the all-wheel drive 85D will now cost $121,000 plus LCT and ORCs, or $141,677 drive-away in NSW, when it arrives in October.
Finally, the top-shelf P85D – also due here in October – now costs $148,000 plus LCT and ORCs, or $178,532 drive-away in NSW.
As we've reported, the new base 70D employs a 70kWh battery, 245kW motor and all-wheel drive to offer a 442km range (NEDC), 0-100km/h acceleration in 5.4 seconds and a 225km/h top speed.
The RWD 85 and AWD 85D both come with an 85kWh battery and a claimed 502km driving range, but while the 270kW 85 is claimed to hit 100km/h in 5.6 seconds on its way to a 225km/h top speed, the 315kW 85D is claimed to reach 100km/h in 4.6 seconds and a 250km/h top speed.
The P85D flagship combines the same 85kWh battery with a high-performance all-wheel drive system and 165kW front and 350kW rear motors for a total output of 515kW, 0-100km/h acceleration in 3.3 seconds and a 480km driving range.
