Tesla introduces Destination Charging Program

Tesla is determined to eradicate the long-held perception that electric vehicles are only adequate for short, urban commutes.

The EV specialist has arranged with 10 sites around the country to have its High Power Wall Units installed for Model S owners to recharge their vehicles while parked for a longer stay. Every hour connected to the single-phase, 32-Amp wall units adds around 50km of range.

Numbered among the 10 sites are: the Park Hyatt Sydney, The Darling, Hotel Realm Canberra, The Observatory in Port Macquarie and Rundells Alpine Lodge at Dinner Plain in Victoria. Tesla has also installed the fast-charging units at Westfield Chatswood and Chadstone as part of its program to roll out recharging facilities up and down Australia's east coast.

In addition to a number of charging stations at Secure Parking premises in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, Tesla has also established stand-alone multi-car recharging stations at Goulburn and Pyrmont.

"This expanding network of Destination Charging is a great replication of the convenience our owners receive when charging at home. Along with the developing Supercharger network, our owners will be able to cover long distances with the knowledge they have a charging solution," says Australian Tesla spokesperson Heath Walker, as quoted in a press release.

Tesla doesn't plan to leave it there. The company is continuing to develop an extensive recharging network around the country, with the goal being to have recharging facilities in every state of Australia.
