Tesla Model X hit with recall
Failing rear seat latches trigger recall for first batch of pure-electric SUV... 2700 cars affectedTesla has announced it has issued a global recall for its recently launched Model X over concerns its third row of seats folds forward in the event of an impact.
According to the US car-maker, while carrying out internal crash tests ahead of the Model X’s European launch the latches that lock the third row of seats failed once in 16 tests, initiating the recall.
Tesla says none of the 2700 Model Xs already delivered in the US have suffered the fault.
As part of the recall, both latches that hold the seats in place will be replaced - a repair that takes around two hours.
According to Tesla, all Model Xs delivered in the US will be fixed within the next five weeks and the pure-electric SUV can be used while customers wait for the fix, as long as the third row of seats remains unoccupied.
Australian Tesla customers will be unaffected, as the Model X won't commence deliveries in the local market until the latter half of this year.
