Tesla is cashing in on the car camping trend by offering a new tailor-made air mattress for its 2024 Tesla Model Y, but just hours after it was introduced for the North American market the latest accessory for the all-electric mid-size SUV had sold out.
Priced from $US225 ($A340), the new air mattress is designed to fit perfectly in the cabin of the Model Y with the rear seats folded flat, with its unique shape tailored to the SUV’s interior trim.
Said to be compatible with both the five- and seven-seat version sold in other markets, the new option is made from three-inch-thick (76mm) high-density foam that’s wrapped with a waterproof and durable polyester jacket.
Included in the price is a carry bag, air pump and two repair patches. When not in use, the mattress can be deflated and neatly stowed in the rear storage area beneath the floor.
Other accessories already offered for Australian owners include plastic rear boot liners (rear $220, front $115), a pet liner ($210) for the second row, a roof rack ($770), a rear hitch bike carrier ($920) as well as the usual floor mats ($80).
There’s no word on whether the new air mattress will be offered outside the US, but if you don’t fancy waiting, aftermarket solutions are already available, including a novel trunk sliding camping bed from New Zealand’s Teraglide.
