Tesla pick-up rendering revealed

US electric vehicle maker’s first attempt at a pick-up truck rendered

A new unofficial rendering of Tesla’s upcoming electric pick-up has been revealed.

We were given our first glimpse of the new model earlier this year when Tesla chief executive Elon Musk posted a teaser image on Twitter following the Model Y small SUV’s world debut.

Now, this new rendering could provide a slightly better idea of what to expect when the pick-up is officially unveiled later this year.

Appearing to favour cabin space over a lengthy tray with more of a focus on lifestyle, the ‘Model B’, as it’s been dubbed by various media outlets, also appears to follow Tesla’s conventional design cues – a closed-off and curvy front-end with an overall futuristic look.

Although, judging by Musk’s teaser shot, the front-end could be more squared-off than the rendering suggests.

A large LED strip stretches across the leading edge of the bonnet and is perhaps what stands out most on the extra-large pick-up, which also looks to have rear suicide doors.

We already know it’ll come with seating for six passengers as well as a driving range somewhere between 640-800km in top-spec variants.

Musk has previously said the pick-up “can’t be unaffordable” and should be priced no higher than $US49,000 ($A72K) in entry-level form so that people can get “a really great truck for $49,000 or less”.

We also know it’ll get features such as a drop-down tailgate, a 240V power socket and 360-degree cameras and sonars which allow it to parallel park on its own.

We’ll have to wait for further details once the ute is officially unveiled, which Musk says should be by October this year.

However, considering the delays we saw with the brand’s Model 3 arrival, we won't hold our breath.
