Tesla releases in-car web browsing
Now you can surf the internet in your Tesla tooTesla owners can now surf the internet from the comfort of their own vehicles.
The US EV-maker today announced the rollout of its Web Browser app for its Australian vehicles via an over-the-air software update.
This means you can now browse the net, update your Facebook status and Google dog-friendly cafes near you -- but only while your vehicle is in Park and connected to WiFi (and neither Netflix nor YouTube streaming is yet available, but it will be soon).
The new function joins the myriad of weird and wacky tech available from Tesla, including Dog Mode (to keep your canine comfortable when you need to pop into the shops), on-board arcade games and a virtual whoopie cushion and fireplace.
Tesla says owners can search or navigate any website by entering the URL into the browser’s address bar. You can also save commonly visited sites to a Favourites list by pressing a heart icon.
The update is available for all Australian Tesla models now, including the all-new Tesla Model 3 which has a big 15-inch display.
The screens in the larger Model S sedan and Model X SUV are even bigger at 17-inch, but their portrait orientation will waste real estate during video playback.
