Tesla takes on London
Tesla opens first European shop in LondonTesla Motors has moved into international sales with the opening of a showroom in London -- the company's first outside the USA.
The 460 square-metre showroom defines the California company's target market by location. The outlet is on Cheval Place in the swish Knightsbridge district -- just a short walk from Harrods.
Around 1300 orders are already taken for the Tesla Roadster (more here) in Europe with the first 250 deliveries arriving mid this year.
Prices in the UK start at -- ouch -- £94,000 ($193,000) on the road. British drivers will have a little time to save however, with right-hand drive models not due to arrive until early 2010.
There are plenty of offsets for the price, too. Throughout Europe, EVs attract all manner of buyer incentives. In London, for example, they will save owners up to £2000 a year in congestion tax, along with lower VAT, free parking and free charging.
The Tesla shopfront is part of a regional sales and service network with reps in Monaco, Munich and Zurich. The company has also opened four new stores in the US.
