Tesla Model S and Model X get noise cancellation tech
Tesla's flagship electric cars get refinement-boosting features via new over-the-air updateTesla has released a new over-the-air update for the Tesla Model S sedan and Model X SUV that turns on new measures to slash road, tyre and wind noise on the move.
The new 'Active Road Noise Reduction' software is said to harness a pair of microphones embedded within the front seats that measure cabin noise.
The extra din is then cancelled out by 'anti-noise' that is piped through the speakers to rid the cabin of unwanted sound frequencies, creating quiet zones around the occupants on board.
Mercedes has already introduced similar measures in the latest Mercedes-Benz S-Class limo.
There's no official confirmation of when, or if, the new noise reduction software will be introduced to the entire Tesla range, but at the moment the 2021.44.5 upgrade has reportedly only been offered to drivers of the recently refreshed Tesla Model S and Model X.
This suggests older versions might not have the hardware to support the new function.
Other new features introduced by the latest over-the-air upgrade include the ability to pre-set driver profiles in the infotainment system, the option of an auto-unlock on approach function and a new capability of adjusting the rear climate control using the front infotainment system.
Cars running the new software can also now report uneven tyre wear, while the new Autopark assistance system is also now able to identify perpendicular parking spots.
Currently, the new software update is said to be in its 'Beta' test phase in certain markets. There's no word yet on when it will be rolled out to other markets like Australia.
