Tesla has plans to broaden its electric vehicle line-up into new segments, with a commercial and passenger van high on its agenda.
Tesla boss Elon Musk has talked up a ‘Tesla Tarago’ for many years, initially suggesting it could be based on the Tesla Model X SUV, although more recent reports point to the Tesla Cybertruck pick-up as the basis for its battery-electric people-mover and delivery van.
This would hand the American EV brand with its own answer to the Volkswagen ID.Buzz, which is confirmed for release in Australia in 2025, along with other ICE-based contenders already available such as the Mercedes-Benz eVito and LDV MIFA 9.
Just such a vehicle was shown under wraps at Tesla’s Investor Day earlier this year – among other future models such as a small car dubbed the Tesla Model 2 – and now the graphic artists at Automotive.AI have come up with their take on how a production-ready Tesla Cybervan might look.
Published on Instagram, the Tesla van shown here retains the curvy and aerodynamic ‘function before form’ design ethos of most Tesla passenger cars.
We’d suggest the rear-end on any production model might be a little less swoopy to maximise the load carrying requirements of the trades, but it’s hard not to admire the work that’s gone into creating this eye-catching interpretation.
