Tesla has announced it has opened what it claims to be the ‘largest charging site in the southern hemisphere’, with EVs topping up at its new Goulburn Supercharger station in NSW.
Based along the Hume Highway between Sydney and Canberra, the new Supercharger station is located on Lockyer Street (close to the iconic Big Merino landmark), near the city of Goulburn, in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales.
Said to consist of 20 300kW chargers, the new V4 Tesla Superchargers are open to all CCS2 compatible vehicles, with charging rates capped at $0.52/kWh for Tesla vehicles and $0.73/kWh for EVs from other brands.
Tesla also charges idle fees of up to $1 per minute if you mistakenly leave your car plugged in after it’s fully charged.
The new 20-Supercharger site is said to complement the nearby Sloane Street site (eight Superchargers) located in town less than 4km away.
Previously, the 16-stall Supercharger site in Albury that was opened back in December 2023 was the Tesla’s largest charging facility in the region.
While Tesla remains Australia’s favourite EV brand, in the first seven months of this year it has sold a total of 15,063 cars, down a hefty 41.4 per cent on the same period in 2024.
Compounding its bleak 2025, last month a lack of supply of its facelifted Model Y and Model 3 saw it deliver just 555 of its mid-size SUV and 362 of its sedans.
