The iconic Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen has gone electric, with EV versions of the big SUV set to be on sale in Australia later this year. Now, for those who can’t afford the estimated $360K to get their hands on one, Mattel Creations has just launched a much more affordable, scaled-down (1:64) die-cast version.
Priced at just $51, the limited-edition Matchbox G-Wagen is now available for pre-order and will come delivered in unique packaging that’s said to double as a display box.

According to Mattel, the die-cast electric G-Wagen was made with ‘innovative materials to reflect its environmental impact’, using 99.5 per cent recycled metal and 81 per cent ISCC-certified plastic materials.
Finished in shimmering MANUFAKTUR South Seas Blue Magno and with a black interior, the 1:64 scale Matchbox also features opening front doors.

“We are very pleased that our all-new Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology, the electric model of our off-road icon, is making its way into the versatile model range of Matchbox cars,” said Michael Knöller, chief of Mercedes-Benz G GmbH.
“We are convinced that it will find its way to many enthusiasts — even outside the G-Fans community.”
Now available for pre-order, the Matchbox EQG will be shipped on or before December 31, 2024, so anyone who can afford the real thing, may very well have theirs before the toy arrives.
