The famous London Taxi has been turned into an electric campervan
Could a PHEV camper reminiscent of the iconic London Taxi be the perfect way to explore the great outdoors with the benefit of low environmental impact and that international travel you've been craving?LEVC (London Electric Vehicle Company formally the London Taxi Company) has revealed first impressions of its new leisure vehicle, the e-Camper so you can go on holidays in nature but feel like you’re commuting around London.
It’s touted as the world’s first electric campervan which combines zero-emission capabilities with zero range anxiety. Meaning it is basically a Plug-in Hybrid vehicle that uses a petrol engine to bolster its EV range.
Joerg Hofmann, CEO of LEVC says that the campervan market is growing rapidly and, despite these vehicles being used for coastal and countryside adventures which often include national parks and protected areas, they are still fully powered by petrol or diesel engines.
“This is a major conflict; we can see a shift in consumer attitudes, with demand for greener mobility solutions to help to protect and improve air quality. Our new electric, zero-emissions capable e-Camper offers the perfect solution and is well-equipped with high quality features that can be tailored to meet a range of customer requirements.”
Based on the LEVC VN5 electric van, the e-Camper has the same pure EV range of 98 km with a total flexible range of 489 km. Allowing owners to travel off the beaten track, where there is no or limited charging infrastructure, with complete peace of mind. Owners can also operate it in zero-emissions mode, ideal for the campsite to power the integrated electric kitchenette without the need for fossil fuels.
The LEVC e-Camper includes sleeping accommodation for up to four, an integrated electric kitchenette, a pop-up roof (incorporating sleeping for two) and a central folding table. In addition, the campervan includes a second-row bench seat, which folds into the second double bed.
For outdoor activities such as mountain biking and surfing, the e-Camper can also support a range of proprietary racks. The van has a distinctive exterior design with styling cues inspired by LEVC’s TX electric taxi, a wide choice of paint colours, with coloured bumpers and alloy wheels to stand out from the conventional campervan crowd.
The e-Camper offers both flexibility and freedom and also meets the growing demand for independent, self-contained holidays, a trend accelerated by both the Covid pandemic and the search for more sustainable travel ideas. Indicative list prices are set to be around £62,250 ($114,838 AUD) with deliveries in the UK and Europe starting in Q4 2021.
