But it is so far from reality that it’s actually quite hilarious. Even a short trip with more than one child can test the patience of even the most well balanced parent. Parents unite in their universal in-car rants…. if only they worked.
Here are the top five things every parent has said to their kids in the car.
This is the holy grail of parental threats. If you do something so dire that your mum or dad has to pull the car over and actually stop, you’re in strife. Thankfully, this statement bring such gravitas that few children know what actually happens in the event of an emergency pull over.
As if it’s not bad enough at the cinema, a child kicking the back of your car seat is top-notch annoying. Along similar lines to get your feet off the couch, what makes them think it’s ok to have their feet up there in the first place!?
Kids love to annoy each other and done within the small confines of a car makes it even better. Keep your hands to yourself sounds so simple and yet they just don’t get it. Never really knowing who started it adds a layer of complexity, too. For full effect, this can be backed up with a ‘don’t make me stop this car’.
This is a common theme for children regardless of where they are (dinner table, cinema, restaurants), but in a car it can actually be dangerous, too. I applaud parents who go with this theme. Scare the life out of them and breed good car manners at the same time.
Ok, admittedly, this is one that we parents could avoid if we simply didn’t give them anything to spill in the first place. But, occasionally it’s necessary. Sadly, sometimes the threat of ‘don’t spill that’ can lead to a minor nervous spillage. We have no solution here.
