The GWM Ute has become a favourite with Aussie tradies and adventurous families with its tough looks, big size and value for money.
While you’ll be aware of what the GWM on the back means (Great Wall Motors), have you ever wondered what the circular badge on the grille and wheels means considering it is not the GWM logo?
While called the GWM Ute in Australia, it goes by a few other names worldwide. In its home market of China, the pickup is known as the POER, pronounced as power as well as the P-Series. Therefore the badge you see on the vehicle is a stylised P for POER.
GWM say that POER stands for ‘Powerful, Off-road, Enjoyable and Reliable’ and the name is used for all its Ute-based products including Cannon the Shanhai Cannon and King Kong. We’re unlikely to see the POER name here in Australia as GWM has found much success calling its Ute, well the Ute.
The GWM house of brands model is a bit confusing depending on where you are in the world with some countries utilising it similar to GM with GWM being the master brand and all of its models sitting in sub-brands like HAVAL, Ora and Tank. Whereas in Australia GWM is the brand with HAVAL, Ora and Tank being the model names.
