The music used in Mitsubishi TV ads of the early 2000s was iconic
A walk down memory lane is always great when you get to relive the fashions, the cars and the songs of 20 years ago...We are surrounded by TV ads these days, all vying for our attention and our hard-earned cash. Some ads are annoying, some have celebrity cameos that make no sense and some are so good they become iconic. A major component of any good TV ad is the music that features in it. Whether it is a jingle or a popular song that has been used, music can bring emotion, feelings and memories which pictures can not do alone. And most of all they can get stuck in your head for years to come!
One brand that has managed to nail the earworm is Mitsubishi, who in the early 2000s absolutely nailed the brief when it came to combining imagery of cars with a catchy popular song that no matter how often you heard it would not annoy you. Dare we say that these car ads of the early 2000s are the best music-based car ads of all time! Big call we know, but play the videos below and these songs will be stuck in your head for the rest of the week.
While Mitsubishi still uses songs in their ads and many of the same stylistic choices as they did in the early millennium, today's are simply not the same as those bangers. BRB just adding these songs to my Spotify playlist...
You Get What You Give - New Radicals
The ad that kicked off the music revolution for the diamond brand. Music has been a key part of Mitsubishi Motors Australia's advertising since May 2001, when it launched a television commercial using You Get What You Give by the American band New Radicals.
9PM (Till I Come) - ATB
This late '90s dance club classic paired with a very sensual storyline of a couple who own a Lancer and Mirage is so early 2000s that it hurts. They sure don't make ads like this anymore...
One Week - Barenaked Ladies
The ad promoting the new look Lancer in 2002 featured people who actually look like members of the Barenaked Ladies! So many goatees in 2002.
Praise You - Fatboy Slim
In a similar style to the New Radicals You Get What You Give brand ad, this version features an updated range of vehicles as well as using the hit Praise You by British DJ Fatboy Slim.
Blister in the Sun - Violent Femmes
The song made famous in the '80s by American folk-punk band Violent Femmes stars alongside the new Mitsubishi Outlander which was the first of the modern-day SUVs for the brand in 2003. Summer vibes only from this ad.
Rush - Big Audio Dynamite
Not just an audio rush, but a visual one too with the Pajero showcasing its talents offroad and in the outback. A lot of the style used in this ad still remains in the ads from Mitsubishi today.
