The Porsche that Facebook built

Celebrating a social media milestone, Porsche has enlisted fans to create, and drive, this 911 Carrera 4S

Iconic German sports car maker Porsche has revealed a new 911 Carrera created by its several-million strong army of Facebook fans. And it's giving them a chance to drive it.

The custom-made Porsche 911 Carrera 4S was created to celebrate Porsche's social media milestone of attaining five million Facebook fans, and is the result of feedback from said fans.

So what do Porsche's Facebook fanatics want? All-wheel drive with a blue-on-white motif, thanks.

The Porsche 911 car is finished in Aqua Blue metallic paint with custom decals on the bonnet and doors, rides on white 20-inch alloy wheels, and features blue-lit 'Carrera' scuff plates inscribed with "Personally built by 5 Million Porsche Fans".

Porsche's Facebook followers also requested a number of aero and performance options on the custom car, including a much louder sports exhaust system, sports suspension, and an Aerokit Cup that adds a large rear spoiler and a more aggressive front fascia.

The PDK-equipped all-wheel drive sports car is powered by a flat 3.8-litre six-cylinder engine. It propels the car to 100km/h in 4.3 seconds thanks to its 294kW/440Nm output, and can almost crack the triple tonne with a top speed of 299km/h.

With some help from the 'Porsche Exclusive' team, the material of choice in the cabin is aluminium. The lightweight metal is used for centre console trim, the gear stick and pedals.

It's not the first time Porsche has asked Facebook fans to design a car either. In early 2012 when the company's Facebook account reached two million fans, it built a one-off Cayman S.

Porsche is also giving its loyal Facebook fans the chance to drive the custom Porsche 911 Carrera 4S at Silverstone. The car maker says: "To show our appreciation, we would like to give you and a friend of your choice the chance to get behind the wheel of this one-of-a-kind sports car at the Porsche Experience Center in Silverstone."

For the record motoring.com.au doesn't quite have five million Facebook fans, but we do have loads of unique and cool (and sometimes embarrassing) content. Check out Motoring Facebook if you want.
