The price of going green

While the Australian government is considering scrapping the Luxury Car Tax in the medium term – including for buyers of 'green' vehicles -- several state and territory governments are already contemplating generous new policies of their own aimed at accelerating the popularity of electric passenger cars.

This push has been sparked by definitive research which shows a direct correlation between policy support and electric vehicle adoption. It follows ongoing lobbying from car-makers including Tesla to remove state-based stamp duty and registration fees, offer transit lane use and support assisting infrastructure as a means of encouraging green car adoption.

But despite industry pressure on governments at both state and federal level, few incentives exist for Australians and the take-up of hybrid and electric vehicles here remains low.

If Tesla's weren't so expensive I'd own one.
Or simply if there were better options. The Nissan leaf/Holden volt etc are great cars but not ideal for larger family's or someone who wants something more sporty.
