Rolls-Royce and Swiss watchmaker BOVET 1822 have joined forces to create a pair of unique timepieces for the super exclusive Rolls-Royce Boat Tail and its lucky owners.
Just three examples of the 2021 Rolls-Royce Boat Tail have been confirmed for production, with each car rumoured to have cost an incredible £20 million ($A36m), making it the most expensive Rolls-Royce ever to be offered for sale.
Made in his-and-hers styles and designed to the exact specifications of the couple who ordered the Boat Tail (who may or may not be music royalty Beyoncé and Jay-Z according to some media speculation), the BOVET 1822 watches are unique in how they can be utilised. Their design allows them to be worn as wrist watches, used as pocket watches, pendants, table clocks or as the clock on the Boat Tail’s dash.
Both are fitted with tourbillon mechanisms to ensure perfect accuracy and have been specially designed in 18K white gold cases and feature matching front dials with the same Caleidolegno veneer found on the aft deck of Boat Tail itself. The watches are also finished with the owner-couples’ names engraved into them.
The faces are individualised with the gentleman’s featuring an aventurine dial with the celestial arrangement of the night sky over the place of his birth on his birth date; the lady’s is decorated with an ornate miniature painting of a flower bouquet on a mother-of-pearl dial. This design is a traditional BOVET 1822 motif, chosen by and personalised for the owner.
Both reverse dials have hand-engraved Bespoke sculptures of Boat Tail, complete with wheels, door handle, mirrors and other fine details. It has been estimated that the timepieces’ creation took a total of 3,000 hours to complete.
