"They're getting the Brock band back together"

Bathurst legend Peter Brock will return from retirement and join with brother Phil in a Brock family-sponsored Holden HQ at the Winton 4-Hour Ken Leigh Memorial HQ Enduro on the weekend of December 3-4.

The Brock brothers teamed together often in the 1970s and 80s in a variety of racing Holdens with a best result of third outright in a Torana L34 at Bathurst in 1976.

Phil, better known as "Split Pin", was the unfortunate member of the Holden Dealer Team quartet who in 1983 missed out on Bathurst laurels when Peter and Larry Perkins switched cars to join John Harvey for a controversial victory.

The Brock brother last competed together in 1987, and will reunite under the sponsorship of Brock Real Estate, owned by third brother Lewis, to drive Phil's HQ Holden that he regularly races in Darwin.

"We're just doing this purely as a fun exercise," said Phil. "Of course I'll be the lead driver because I'm more experienced," he added with a grin.

With 400 race cars competing at various circuits, the old Holdens have proven to be a popular category for enthusiasts with minimal budgets.  A field of 40 venerable HQs are expected to compete at the Winton circuit near Benalla (Vic) with entrants coming from all around Australia.
