Thor goes camping: Chris Hemsworth and family join the caravan holiday trend

Thor is our new sun-kissed caravan king.

Chris Hemsworth caravanning with his family and friends is the stuff Hollywood movies are made of – infinite white beaches, sun-kissed bodies, surfing, fishing, camp-fire evenings and a top-notch caravan. It’s Aussie livin’ at its finest.

Hemsworth's Instagram revealed that with bored kids as a powerful motivator, he hitched his Toyota LandCruiser to a Lotus Trooper caravan and hit the open road, headed for the coast.

However, just like the Hemsworth brothers, not all caravans are created equal.

Lotus Caravans are Australian-made and built and the Trooper is the brand’s large off-road caravan – think galvanised chassis, marine-grade panels and BF Goodrich all-terrain tyres, for starters.  It’s a tough glamour-van - the Thor of RVs.

The Lotus Trooper’s checker-plate exterior is the sign of a true fit-for-purpose off-roader, while a ceramic bowl toilet and two hot-water showers (inside and out) may encourage families to linger longer in the great outdoors.

But the Trooper has both brawn and bling – caravan and camping bling.  Matte black sinks, taps and hardware, soft-close drawers, Italian leather lounge seating, reverse cycle heating and cooling, a large awning and a 24-inch LED flat screen TV. It also has a reversing camera.

It’s available with eight different floor plans that range in size from 18ft 9inch to 22ft. We’re tipping Hemsworth has the bunk bed configuration to accommodate his crew while those double-glazed tinted windows should keep the paps at bay.

If we didn’t know better we’d say Hemsworth is angling for a gig on season two of Grey Nomads.

A Hemsworth Instagram plug of a rugged go-anywhere caravan could be the road trip fuel we all need as dreams of European getaways give way to home soil holiday action.

But, before you dive in Thor style, be sure to check out the Ultimate Caravan Buying Guide from our friends at caravancampingsales.com.au because a well-optioned Lotus Trooper will easily cost you $100k+.
